For the past twenty three years, Andrew Sewell has served as music director of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra in Madison, WI.

During his first ten years leading the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Andrew was also the music director of the Wichita Symphony, Kansas, concluding his tenure in 2010. Prior to these two positions, Andrew served as music director of the Mansfield Symphony, Ohio from 1997 to 2002 and resident conductor of the Toledo Symphony, Ohio from 1995 to 2000.   Additionally, Andrew is in his sixth year as music director of the San Luis Obispo Symphony, in California.

Since becoming the music director of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra in 2000, the artistic quality has improved enormously. In 2004 Andrew expanded the orchestra to 34 core musicians releasing three CDs to date. The season includes five classical Masterworks concerts, six Concerts on the Square (an outdoor Wednesday evening summer series with an average weekly attendance of 40,000), Messiah as well as youth and family concerts, and a statewide Young Artist Concerto competition. In 2005 his Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra moved into the renovated Capitol Theater, as part of the Overture Center for the Arts, and now performs in a 1000 seat auditorium.

As a guest conductor, Andrew has worked with many orchestras including the Toronto, Detroit, Milwaukee, Columbus, Syracuse, Monterey, Eugene, Illinois, Green Bay and Oshkosh Symphony Orchestras, as well as abroad with the New Zealand Symphony, Auckland Philharmonia, Christchurch Symphony, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, Hong Kong City Opera, National Symphony of Mexico, the Kyushu Symphony, the Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato, Mexico, the Oklahoma Mozart Festival in Bartlesville, OK, the Peninsula Music Festival in Door County, WI and at the Masterworks Festival, in Winona Lake, IN and now Spartanburg, SC.  

Andrew has worked with many major classical and popular artists, and in Madison has gained the reputation for seeking out and introducing fresh new talent.  The guest artists Andrew has collaborated with include: Sir James Galway, Kathleen Battle, Art Garfunkel, Garrick Ohlsson, Christopher Parkening, Jubilant Sykes, Sylvia McNair, Susannah Phillips, Leila Josefowicz, Rachel Barton Pine, Chee Yun, Kyoko Takazawa, Ryu Gotoh, Augustin Hadelich, Ben Beilman, Vadim Gluzman, Ilya Kaler, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Giora Schmidt, Alisa Weilerstein, Mark Kosower, Joshua Roman, Amit Peled, Pieter Wispelwey, Barry Douglas, Stephen Hough, Ilya Yakushev, Orion Weiss, Shai Wosner, Anne-Marie McDermott, John O’Conor, Paul Neubauer, David Shifrin, Claude Frank, Paula Robison, Jason Vieaux, Ana Vidovic, Yolanda Kondonasis.
